Bringing Science Closer to Young People Through SCI-POP Equipment at Anlong Vil High School
On October 19–20, 2026, the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI) showcased its SCI-POP science kits during the official inauguration of the Quick Impact Project (QIP), titled “Establishing a Science Library in Sangkae District, Battambang Province.” Presided over by H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, the event was attended by approximately 1,200 students. The program aimed to inspire creativity and encourage students to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on experiments and practical learning.

Strengthening Cambodia’s Innovation Ecosystem: Insights from Austria
Recently, Dr. LY Sokny, Deputy Director General of the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI), participated in an official visit to Austria organized by GCIP-Cambodia. The visit aimed to explore collaboration among government agencies, research institutions, and the private sector in transforming innovative ideas into practical solutions. During the mission, the delegation visited key organizations and institutions, including UNIDO, BMLUK, Vienna Business Agency, AWS, TU Wien, Climate Lab, and Impact Hub Vienna. Key lesson: A strong innovation ecosystem depends on effective connections between research, entrepreneurship, investment, and sustainability. These elements play an important role in fostering innovation and economic growth. The meeting focused on exchanging insights and identifying commercial opportunities to gain a better understanding of market demand and the key factors influencing the export of Cambodian cashew nuts to the Chinese market. The discussion marked an initial step toward future cooperation that could contribute to strengthening Cambodia’s cashew value chain, increasing the value added of agricultural products, and expanding the country’s export markets.

Phnom Penh, October 8, 2026 The working team of the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI) held an online meeting to follow up on progress and provide further technical consultation on the implementation of technical solutions for a smoked fish processing enterprise. The follow-up focused on clarifying the findings and recommendations of the technical solutions and evaluating progress in their implementation. The consultation aimed to improve the quality and safety of processed food products through better raw material selection, processing methods, packaging material selection and techniques, and appropriate storage conditions for finished products. NISTI remains committed to supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cambodia by strengthening their technical capabilities, improving product quality and safety, and enhancing their competitiveness.

Prof. Dr. Chey Chan Oeun, Dean of the Graduate School of Science . The visit aimed to strengthen and expand collaboration between the two institutions under their existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The key areas of cooperation include joint research in food processing and materials science and engineering, as well as internship opportunities and practical work experience for students. During the visit, the delegation toured the Cambodia–Korea Food Processing Technology Center (FTC) to learn about food processing technologies, pilot-scale production, and product quality analysis. The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of mutual interest and further their research collaboration, while supporting practical learning opportunities for students.

Dr. Keo Socheat, Director General of NISTI. The training brought together participants from various institutions and organizations who had relevant backgrounds and interests in data analysis. The sessions were delivered by H.E. Dr. Keo Socheat, Director General of NISTI, and Mr. Rath Vathana, an economic researcher. The training aimed to provide participants with foundational knowledge of quantitative data analysis in business and economics, develop basic skills in using STATA for data management and analysis, and strengthen their ability to interpret data accurately and present analytical findings with confidence. Through this initiative, NISTI seeks to promote data analysis capabilities and support the application of quantitative methods in business, economics, and research.

The key objectives of the training included: - Strategic Planning: Advancing whole-of-government digital transformation through insights from Singapore’s Smart Nation Strategy. - Citizen-Centric Services: Improving accessible digital services that respond to citizens’ needs. - Data Governance: Strengthening data sharing and integration across government agencies. - Cybersecurity and Inclusion: Promoting data protection, digital security, and inclusive access to digital services.
